14th & 15th March 2026 - 10am-4pm
Ceramics Academy are delighted to be hosting a two day Masterclass with Rebecca Buck.
No prior experience is required — this masterclass is suitable for adult beginners through to experienced makers who want to expand their sculptural practice.
“Raised between New York, USA and Oxford, UK, within a chaotic family of academics, I am a Sculptor by both nature and nurture, a muddy day-dreamer taught to question everything.
I chose a nomadic existence, collecting views and making sculpture and parting with it on the back-roads and by-ways until 1992 when the arrival of my eldest son anchored me to the UK.
Osprey Studios was a fluid mix of Studio and Community practice until 1994 when it coalesced with the acquisition of a terrifying dragon of a kiln.
The move to the stunning and inspirational landscape of Wales in 1998, with its rich, ancient culture and vibrant humour has allowed Osprey Studios to establish and the work to mature.
My Sculptures are in private collections all over the world and also with the National Trust and the National Parks here in the UK. My Public work is intensely collaborative. I have developed a range of accessible techniques that I am happy to share – one of life’s great joys is connecting others with their creativity through hands-on work or by helping them find the form that speaks for them.
I sell sculptures directly from the Studio and from the beautiful galleries I show with in the UK and USA.
I am honoured and delighted that students from universities and schools across the world are studying my work and I keep that in mind when writing posts”.
Explore a bold, intuitive approach to sculptural ceramics in this inspiring two-day masterclass. You will have the opportunity to make pure abstracts or abstracted natural forms using clay armatures and layered surfaces.
Participants will create a sculpture up to 30cm high, using Rebecca’s distinctive building and surface techniques.
Over two days you will explore:
• Working from maquettes and scale models instead of drawings
• Clay armature
• Developing ideas from instinct and observation
• Tools, clays and studio tricks
• Building up surfaces and textures
• Layered clays
Rebecca will demonstrate the final slip surface finish, after which participants will complete their pieces in their own time. If needed, up to two hours of studio access is included and available by prior arrangement.
Price includes: all materials, equipment, firing of your piece and 2 hours studio time if needed.
We aim to have your piece ready for you to collect approximately 6-8 weeks after completion. However, sometimes matters beyond our control happen and this may impact our firing schedule. Refreshments will be provided.
WHAT TO BRING: Please bring your own apron and hand towel. Tools will be provided but please feel free to bring your own if you have them. Refreshments will be provided but you will need to bring your own lunch each day (microwave available).
