Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Explain the changes to Statutory Sick Pay introduced by the Employment Rights Act 2025 and the financial and operational implications for their organisation
- Apply a consistent return-to-work interview process following every absence, regardless of duration
- Distinguish between short-term intermittent absence and long-term absence and apply the appropriate management approach for each
- Trigger, plan and conduct welfare meetings with employees whose absence pattern or underlying health gives cause for concern
- Identify when Occupational Health referral is appropriate and understand how to use medical evidence lawfully in absence management decisions
- Manage absence where there is an underlying disability, using the duty to make reasonable adjustments to reduce legal risk
- Apply the Bradford Factor and other absence monitoring tools with consistency and fairness
- Produce accurate records of absence management meetings that support fair and reasonable disciplinary process.
- Recognise the link between workplace culture, wellbeing and absence rates, and identify practical steps to address root causes
