What's involved?
Spend a day caring for your own little dinky donkey, learning all about donkey care and interaction.
This special day can be arranged year-round as long as The Dinks and their handler are available. Please enquire for dates to suit you.
This is the best day out for donkey-lovers who would like to know more about handling and caring for some equines including the Good Day Out Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys, Maverick & Goose. This animal encounter experience also includes meeting horses Ed & Shamrock who live on the same yard.
Unless you have booked as a larger group, there will only be 2 people maximum on the session so you will have serious donkey cuddles and interaction for the day with the little lads. This is only suitable for adults or older teens accompanied by an adult.
You’ll spend around 90 mins on the normal daily tasks from 8.30am, feeding, fetching water, mucking out, poo picking the field, grooming and sweeping. Scratches, cuddles and interaction are encouraged with the mini donkeys and they usually try to help in some way.
After a coffee break, we’ll take the Dinks for a walk along the local green lanes and scenic farmland bordering the Brecon Beacons and if weather allows, we’ll have a snack picnic on the walk.
A veggie lunch is included at our smallholding or we will head to a local cafe.
The afternoon session is interactive agility games with The Dinks. The donkeys love their games and it is really great to see how different they are from when you are walking with them. We use positive reinforcement techniques and at all times we consider how the donkeys are responding and reacting.
Bring along
- Walking boots, wellies or sturdy shoes are advisable as the ground can be slippery and muddy, even in summer.
- During summer, please bring strong insect repellent against horse flies, midges and mosquitos.
- Sorry but dogs are not allowed as they can scare the donkeys.
FAQs
Where are you? The Dinky Donkeys, Maverick & Goose, live on a smallholding near Sennybridge, LD3 8TY. Pre-booking is required and full directions are sent when you book. All our Good Day Out experiences are at different locations, so please read the directions carefully.
Can I bring a dog along? Sorry but no. We can recommend dog sitters so do ask in advance.
Transport: Plenty of free parking in our courtyard.
The nearest public transport is a bus stop in Sennybridge, about 4 miles away, so we would recommend taking a taxi from Brecon which has better bus links and taxis. Travel by car is sadly a way better option in rural Wales.
Gift Vouchers If you wish to buy an undated voucher as a gift, please selected the Buy a Voucher option to buy or visit our general Gift Vouchers page for the recipient to choose their own experience.
