Saturday 8th June 9.30am-4pm
Ceramics Academy are delighted to be hosting a one day Masterclass with David Chilton.
'David is a Devon based Ceramic artist. He studied at Cardiff, gaining a BA in Ceramics.
His work has always been figurative, exploring narrative through myth. Touching on issues surrounding the human body, particularly the female body.
He has always used porcelain and is drawn to the qualities it has to offer, imbuing his work with its own story as a medium moving from the Orient to England.
As a person of dual heritage, he explores the tradition of cross pollinating ideas, forms & motifs to reinterpret them through his perspective.
All work is hand-built using slabs of clay, formed by pushing and manipulating from the inside where texture is created and is inherent to the process.'
We will begin the day with a short introduction from David about his work. The rest of the day will be spent making your own figurative sculpture using porcelain paperclay, expertly tutored by David and assisted by Taz.
Price includes all materials and firing of your piece for you to collect at a later date. We aim to have your piece ready for you to collect approximately 6-8 weeks later. However, sometimes matters beyond our control happen and this may impact our firing schedule. Refreshments will be provided.
WHAT TO BRING: Pottery is a messy business - if you can please bring your own apron and hand towel, we would also recommend that you wear old clothes, although the clay washes out easily & doesn’t stain. Please also bring lunch.
