Program
The Southern Åre mountain range is a less visited gem in Jämtland with miles upon miles of trails and paths for trekking. You will hike on land that belongs to the Sami people, which means that there’s a chance of seeing reindeer during your journey. You will stay at simple but beautiful situated mountain lodges and cozy cabins and explore the local cuisine and specialties of the area together with our local trekking guide.
Vålådalen
July 11
The guide will meet you on the railway station in Undersåker 14:45 and take care of you all the way through the trip. 25 km transfer further into the mountains awaits you, to Vålådalen. Check in at the genuine mountain station Vålådalen into a shared room and get the first glimpse of the mountain area. Hopefully there is time for a short stroll in the area before the buffet dinner with ingredients from the forest, mountain and lakes around is served in the evening.
July 12, Issjödalen and the Pyramids, ca 22 km, appr. 300 height meters.
Enjoy the breakfast and prepare your lunch pack. Today you will hike together with your guide to one of the Swedish mountains most interesting places from a geological perspective, the spectacular Pyramids. Here you will see remarkable traces of the ice age, including springs, erosion dales and pits. The trail goes through the lush forest and just up to the tree level. There are beautiful picnic spots in the valley Isjödalen where you will enjoy your lunch before you continue the hike up on the Gröndal delta and back downhill to Vålådalen for sauna and a buffet dinner.
July 13, Vålådalen – Ottsjö ca. 22 km, appr. + 290 height meters.
After breakfast we set off with our backpacks prepared for two days of mountain hiking, leaving Vallbo behind. The rest of your luggage will be transported to Åre Fjällsätra. If the conditions allow we will do a long wade, crossing the lake Ottsjön in a very shallow part to save 12 km of walking. We will do the wade slow and calm together, take a good lunch break on the shore. And after the lake we hike slightly uphill through the village Ottsjö until we reach our next accommodation, Ottsjö Wärdshus we will stay for the night in double rooms with shared bathroom. The dinner, inspired of Jämtland and our local area, is served in the dining room where you sit together and enjoy.
Ottsjö & Edsådalen
July 14, Ottsjö – Lyckans läger ca. 14-20 km, appr. + 360 -200 height meters.
Today you will hike over the mountains Hållfjället (900 masl) and Grofjället (959 masl) and in the afternoon we reach Lyckans läger where we will stay for the night in cabins. Lyckans läger is located on a beautiful birch hill by the lake Lilla Offsjön, just below the tree line. The two cabins are simple and cozy without electricity or running water, well suited for you who like to experience a little more wilderness life. Here you can borrow the boat to go fishing or just have a relaxing afternoon in the one of the best saunas that the Swedish mountains can offer, just by the lake. Simple dinner prepared together in the evening and accommodation in bunk beds in the two huts.
July 15, Lyckans Läger – Edsåsdalen ca. 14 km, appr. +300-400 height meters
After breakfast the hike continues along the valley off the beaten track to the old Sami settlement Helenakåtan, located on a high plateau with a magnificent view of the landscape. This is where we intake the lunch package from breakfast. After lunch we take the path over Lillvalen to see the beautiful view over Edsåsdalen where our transfer is waiting to take us back to the small mountain village Undersåker and the personal and modern hotel Åre Fjällsätra. Check in to comfortable double rooms, all different from each other. Time to relax in the sauna before a well deserved dinner.
At Hotel Fjällsätra you can store a small back with a clean change of clothes and a pair of shoes during the trip, to use the last evening.
July 16
